Job Summary

  • In close coordination with the Director Logistics, lead and oversee the IFFCO group transportation services and thus ensure high quality transportation services to the business units
  • To manage and reduce the transportation costs at a global level and enhance the presence of the Logistics department as a preferred third party transportation and logistics service provider

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Strategic:

  • Design the fleet replacement and fleet management strategy and ensure reduction in downtime of company owned vehicles
  • In close coordination with the Director Logistics, develop and monitor budget allocations, and expenditures
  • Devise mechanisms to enhance the presence of IFFCO group as a third party transport and logistics service provider
  • In close coordination with Director Logistics, identify and implement leading supply chain management systems concerning transportation operations including transportation management system, planning and execution systems, workshop management systems etc.
  • Design strategies to handle the variability in demand and manage the fleet accordingly
  • Devise mechanisms to enhance employee engagement and build a robust culture within the transportation department

 

2. Operational:

  • Work in close coordination with the business units and ensure customer goods move from production through the supply chain to the end user
  • Direct activities related to dispatching, routing and tracking of transportation vehicles, such as trailers and trucks.
  • Continuously review the transportation plan and ensure maximum ton loads for each of the vehicles
  • Plan, organize and track the progress of drivers to ensure on time delivery of goods
  • Work in close coordination with the customer services department to flag any delays in transportation of goods on a timely basis
  • Oversee fleet preventative maintenance programs and activities for the purpose of ensuring that vehicles are maintained in a safe and effective operating condition
  • Analyze expenditures and other financial information in order to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits and improving services.
  • Recommend to the Director Logistics capital expenditures for acquisition of new systems or freight in order to increase efficiency and services of transportation department
  • Conduct investigations to determine causes of transportation accidents and devise mechanisms to prevent the same
  • Support the Director - Logistics in Key Account Management for third party logistic agreements; Proactively seek tie-ups and provide service to these accounts
  • Support the Director – Logistics in conducting negotiations and creating contracts for the finalized third party customers
  • Negotiate and authorize contracts with procurement partners and maintenance suppliers, and monitor contract fulfilment
  • Assist the Director Logistics in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities and customer satisfaction opportunities
  • Support the Director Logistics in monitoring quality, quantity, delivery times, OTIF, transportation costs and other metrics for evaluating performance of Intergulf logistics
  • Ensure carrier compliance with company policies or procedures for product transit or delivery. Also ensure local company norms to truck and goods movement and in case of any issues immediately resolve the same
  • Monitor product import or export processes to ensure compliance with regulatory or legal requirement

 

3. People Management:

  • Allocate work to subordinates, nominate for training as per guidelines, conduct performance reviews and manage leave and overtime to ensure efficiency.
  • Participate in the identification of training and development initiatives for all subordinates
  • Drive the engagement and satisfaction of the team through holding periodic meetings to discuss the achievements and address any employee issues and/or concerns

  • % adherence to timelines for procurement of new vehicles
  • % reduction in cost of transportation due to introduction of new technology
  •  % adherence to capital budget for Transport Department
  • % Reduction in downtime of company owned vehicles

Work experience requirement

Minimum 10+ years of related experience with at-least 5 years as Head Transportation, preferably in a similar industry

Qualification

  • Master’s in Business Administration with specialization in Supply Chain Management
  • Global Transport Certifications like CLTD preferred
