Job Summary
Responsible for day-to-day operations of HSE department, implementing safety requirements across the business unit and ensuring zero accident level in operational processes. Responsible for building a culture of Health, Safety, Environmental and Sustainability Consciousness at the business unit and ensure continuous development in the units HSE culture.
Roles & Responsibilities
Strategy Management
- Advise the Operations Head on all new safety regulations and provide expert advice and support to the management with regards to management of workplace hazards and risks
- Design Annual Sustainability plan and objectives
- Implement Sustainability initiatives within the BU and train employees on sustainability practices
Finance Management
- Develop annual budget and ambition plans for HSE in line with business direction.
Operations Management
- Oversee HSE operations, monitor performance, and report to the Operations Head, ensuring corrective actions are taken.
- Identify unsafe conditions and ensure a safe working environment through workflow modifications.
- Mitigate risks related to HSE violations by assessing hazards and implementing corrective measures.
- Prepare SOPs and disaster response plans for events like fire, earthquake, and floods.
- Maintain risk registers, conduct annual reviews, and ensure compliance with safety norms.
- Conduct regular checks on fire systems, identify hazards, and develop fire risk mitigation plans.
- Drive employee awareness campaigns on risk management and emergency actions.
- Ensure adherence to statutory safety requirements for employees and contractors.
- Analyze pollution control measures, highlighting issues related to air, water, and waste management.
- Collaborate with external auditors and certification bodies for inspections, audits, and corrective actions.
- Maintain the HSE Management System (HSEMS) and ensure timely submission of relevant documentation.
- Enforce the use of PPEs and ensure adherence to safe working practices.
- Investigate incidents, conduct root-cause analyses, and develop preventive action plans.
- Maintain incident dashboards, analyze trends, and share key insights with stakeholders.
- Develop and display emergency evacuation plans at critical locations.
- Implement safe practices for driving and vehicle movement.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety legislation.
Stakeholder Management
- Ensure that all the staff, contractors and visitors adhere to the safety rules
People Management
- Work closely with the team to achieve short-term and long-term goals on time
- Oversee development of appropriate systems and policies to enable capability development of employees
- Allocate work to subordinates, nominate for training as per guidelines, conduct performance reviews and manage leave and overtime to ensure efficiency.
- Drive the engagement and satisfaction of the team through holding periodic meetings to discuss the achievements and address any employee issues and/or concerns. Build an effective, efficient and motivated team. Supervise direct reportees in their day-to-day tasks and guide them in managing their performance by providing appropriate feedback and counselling. Provide recommendations to HR on hiring and promotions

- Gap reduction between last year’s Lost Time Injury numbers and zero, with the target of zero injuries

- Number of initiatives completed for ensuring HSE compliance & awareness within specified timelines

Work experience requirement
5+ years of industrial safety experience preferably in the large food manufacturing unit
Qualification
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Safety, Engineering or a related technical field
